Reiki Myth #1

Like a lot of alternative therapies, there are a lot of myths around about Reiki, some of which can put people off even thinking about trying it. So, over the next few weeks we will look at some of the more common myths in more depth. Today we will look at –

Only people who are natural healers can learn to give Reiki

So firstly, what is natural healing? Well, it is simply an umbrella term encompassing all the methods and techniques that use naturally derived medicines or healing techniques. It is a multifaceted system that is primarily gentle and non-invasive. Many natural healers will talk about Aura’s (a subtle energy that emanates from the body with layers of colours) or Chakras (energy centres situated along the spine) as ways to heal the body. Others will use things such as Essential Oils or herbs.

From this we can see that we all have the ability in us to be natural healers although we don’t always realise it -from the person who gives someone¬† a hug when they feel low, to the parent who ‘kisses it better for their child’ or someone who uses essential oils to help ease their ailments right up to people who read auras or do hands on healing sessions.

If we are all natural healers then it stands to reason that we are all able to give Reiki –¬† all that is needed is to be attuned by a Reiki Master/Teacher.

Unlike other forms of Hands on Healing a healer can only give Reiki if they have been attuned by a Master – i.e. they have been ‘tuned in ‘ to the Reiki energy.
