What exactly is Reiki?

Is Reiki a religion?
No, Reiki is not a religion nor does it have links to any particular religion. Reiki founder Mikao Usui was influenced by the religions of his country but Reiki itself is a spiritual practice. People of all faiths are Reiki practitioners and users
What happens at a Reiki treatment?
You will either sit on a chair or lie on a couch and the Reiki practitioner will hold their hands on or just above certain points on your body – Chakra energy points. Babies and toddlers sit on their parents/guardian’s lap. You will remain fully clothed at all times and the session is either touch or non-touch according to your preference.
How long is a session?
The length of a session varies depending on which type you have. For an adult, it is either an hour for a full couch treatment or half an hour for a seated treatment. For a baby/toddler it is about 20 minutes. For an older child it will be about 30 minutes
What should I wear?
There is no need to wear anything special, just something that is loose and that you feel comfortable in. You will remain clothed at all times.
What will I feel during/after a treatment?
Different people will feel different things. Most people simply feel very relaxed and chilled and often drop off to sleep. Some people will feel heat from the practitioner’s hands or may feel some tingling. Afterwards you will most likely feel very relaxed and sleepy.
How often should I have a treatment?
This will vary from person to person. The majority of people will need more than session to fully resolve any issues or health concerns. This may be one a week for several weeks or just as and when you feel you need it. Your practitioner will be able to give you advice on this.
What can be treated with Reiki?
Because Reiki works with the surrounding energy it helps the body to heal itself so can help with anything.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Absolutely anyone receive and benefit from Reiki, there are no age limits. Reiki can even be given to your pets, plants, food and drink.
Do I need to check with my doctor before having a treatment?
No, you do not need to see your GP beforehand or stop any treatment or medication. In fact, Reiki will work alongside any conventional treatments to enhance the results. Reiki practitioners are not medical practitioners so will not change any medical treatment or drugs nor diagnose.
What is Distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki is simply the act of sending Reiki over a distance. Reiki can be sent to anyone anywhere whether in a different room, building or country.
Will Reiki harm me or my baby?
No, Reiki can do no harm! Because it works with your body helping it to draw the energy it needs, your body will only draw what it needs and can deal with.
